For The Love Of: Hair Care

Not exactly a cleaver title, but it works for me! Yup, you guessed it, this is basically what I do to try and take care of my hair.

Quick history of my hair, I originally had pin straight hair that went down to my waist. Wouldn't take a curl or anything. Super thick, coarse and luscious. Then I went for a drastic change, I got my hair cut up to my chin. Boy did I regret it. It was a blunt cut and just looked terrible on my round face.

My hair has been frosted, highlighted and dyed, since I was 13. Majority of all this, my Mother did, as well as my Grandfather. He actually enjoyed the frosting because of the OH SO LOVELY frosting cap that you'd hook the hair through. That thing was the DEVIL!

My hair has been, blonde, red, bleached, black, purple, turquoise, blue, red with pink streaks, black with various under layers of multiple colors. I've also had the infamous platinum skunk streak in the front a la Rogue.

What it comes down to is, my hair is damaged. The worst of the bleaching was when my hair had been dyed black, and the dye actually stained the hair. My Mom actually did two processes of bleach to get the black dye out of my hair. I don't know what she did, but my hair was never burned or brittle from the processes.

So, enough of my blabbling! Curious about the products I use to help my damage hair? Here we go! And as a quick note, I don't use "high-end" products. I've tried many, and they just don't mesh well with my hair.

Shampoo

Yeah, I use three different shampoos. Not at the same time though! Haha. I alternate between two Volume shampoos then have a "cleaning" shampoo to get all the build up out of my hair.

Suave Volumizing Shampoo, Aloe + Ginseng
This volumizing shampoo is infused with 100% natural aloe vera & ginseng, which are known for their rejuvenating properties.  It cleanses without heaviness for hair that's full of body.
Pantene Pro-V Fine Hair Solutions Volume Shampoo
System for 24 hour full, thick body.  Gently cleans with zero heavy build up.  Preps fine hair for an amplified look inspired by collagen.  Provides manageability so you can create your full bodied style.  With Pro-Vitamins + Collagen pumping effect. 100% Weightless body for fine hair.
Herbal Essences Drama Clean Refreshing Hair Shampoo
Come clean with Drama Clean normal hair shampoo, fused with a combination of citrus blossom and green tea for hair that is renewed, refreshed and ready to go.  Get light, lush locks with all the lather, but none of the gunk.  This little soap opera isn't over yet!  After lathering up with this normal hair shampoo, try the equally fresh-headed conditioner.

Conditioner

For conditioners I only use one, for now. I just purchased a different brand of conditioner that I found at Harmon's for... $.92 :O!

Suave Professionals Keratin Infusion Smoothing Conditioner
Natural keratin protein in hair depletes over time leaving it unmanageable, frizzy,  and harder to style.
This deep nourishing conditioner, formulated with Keralock Technology, infuses keratin and seals the hair cuticle from the outside. Leaves hair soft, smooth and shiny.

Treatments/Serums

Right now I use two different treatments/serums. I alternate between the two.

Organix Repairing Awaphu Ginger Dry Styling Oil - Review

A light and dry styling treatment specially formulated with deeply moisturizing oil extracted from the Hawaiian awapuhi ginger plant, plus hydrolyzed keratin proteins to strengthen the hair from within leaving it bouncy, super soft and shiny!
Suave Professionals Keratin Infusion Heat Defense Leave-In Conditioner
Natural keratin protein in hair depletes over time leaving it unmanageable, frizzy,  and harder to style.
This dual-action lightweight formula, enriched with Keralock™  Technology, both infuses keratin inside the hair fiber for ultimate moisturization and helps protect hair while heat styling.
If anyone has any suggests to products I should try, I'm open!

Review: BANGO by Pro Beauty Tools

I normally wouldn't do a review on something like this, but I couldn't resist.

My Mother's Valentine's gift for me was something, in my opinion, nontraditional. She purchased Bango by Pro Beauty Tools (retail $14.99) for me. This was something I never seen nor heard of before, but she knows how much I despise going to a salon to get my hair cut (the dying aspect, well she dyes my hair).

For some reason, every time I go to a salon, even with picture included on the cut I want, my hair gets butchered. The last time I went (which was November 7th, 2012), she hair stylist did an ok job. My fringe was the way I wanted it, she kept my length going, but she forgot to add layers in and the face frame. Normally I'd complain, but I was in a rush due to a snow storm that was set to hit.

That had been the first time in a year that I got my hair cut. The time before that, I went to a different salon, and my hair was butchered. Picture brought in, shown, explained the changes I wanted which was simply to keep the length. So I requested half an inch to be cut off the ends and for the layers to be renewed. Just for reference, at that point the length of my hair had been down to the lowest part of my shoulder blades. Guess what. The hair stylist cut off FIVE inches of my hair bringing it nearly back up to my shoulders. The face frame was uneven, and significantly shorter than the rest of my hair, while my fringe was cut straight across and left uneven as well.

When I saw the end result, I asked the stylist what she was thinking, this wasn't the cut that I had wanted, she just shrugged and removed the salon cape. I was furious, especially because I had a hair reference photo which she kept in front of her. Hence why I didn't go back to a salon for a year.

That wasn't the first time my hair had been butchered though, but it was the worst of them.

Anyway, that's the background as to why my Mom bought this product for me. Onward to the review!

Hair Care Review: Organix Awapuhi Ginger

First hair care product review on my blog. I was going through the clearance areas of Target (always check the end shelves of the aisles!) and came across Organix Awapuhi Ginger Dry Styling Oil. Normally I wouldn't purchase this, but being it was on clearance I figured why not!

For anyone who is curious what Awapuhi Ginger is, please visit Hawaiian Ethnobotany Database for further details.

Sticker Price
The product comes in a black box (not pictured), accepted with white, hot pink and light pink lettering/font with a gold design in the background. Inside is the bottle (3.3fl oz) with the accenting and font coloring.
The bottle's packaging pretty much reflects the box, save for the design that appears on the box (not pictured). It's sleek packaging, the only issue I have with it, is the cap. I would have preferred if it were a pump because the product, which is an oil, comes out very quickly.

Ingredients listed on the box.
This isn't the first time that I've used Organix products. In the past I've used shampoos and conditioners from the brand, but haven't used anything besides that. So this product is a first to me.

The scent is very pleasant, definitely soft and not over-powering. For me it does lightly linger in the hair, which I love.

Directions.
I apply the product to towel dried hair, working it from tips to a third of the way up, avoiding the roots. Then blow dry my hair.

As I mentioned before, you can end up with too much product. The oils consistency, I would say is similiar to baby oil. I can say though, even with too much product, it doesn't affect the way the hair turns out. There's no residue left behind. I will say this though, the first day I used this and had too much product, my hair felt like there a slight weight to it.

My hair comes out soft with a light scent to it. I haven't seen too much repairing though, then again I hadn't used this product on dry hair, only towel dried. Even with it being towel dried, I have noticed that any frizz I would normally have, have calmed down. So in a sense perhaps the repairing is working with the frizz control.

Overall verdict? It's a nice product with a lovely scent. It makes my hair soft, and does control frizz.

Would I repurchase again? Probably not unless it's on clearance again, I do have other hair care products that do the same exact thing.
