Eye of the Day: Retrograde Pixie Dust

Yeah, no, not dead yet! Just overly distracted by new TV Shows. I don't know if that's bad or not. Sleepy Hollow, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Once Upon A Time... Plus I've also taken to Modern Family, which I never watched before until recently. WHY HAVEN'T I BEEN WATCHING THIS BEFORE?!

Ahem, other then that. If you follow me on Instagram, then you know last Saturday I wore a dress to work. Out of my comfort zone. But I did it, and I'm doing it again this Saturday. Truth be told, this dress is actually a dress that I wanted as soon as I saw it in Target. I have NEVER wanted a dress before, but it's the type that I was just drawn to, I think because from afar it looked like a matte leather due to the embossed fabric.

Enough of that though, the main purpose of this post is an eye look that I have been wearing rather often. It was actually one of those "lets see if it'll work" and I get nothing, but compliments when I do wear it.

Eye of the Day: The Crash of Honey

The Crash of Honey. The Crash of Honey? I'm not really sure what I was thinking when I came up with that one, but I'm going with it!

Anyway, I hope everyone has a fantastic Labor Day weekend if you are state side, if not, I still hope you all have a fantastic weekend! For me... I'll be attempting to make home made marshmallows tomorrow being my work schedule this weekend is backwards. No work Saturday, but working Sunday. However! I'm off Monday xD The goal for this weekend besides marshmallows is to organize my nail polishes... I'm actually going to even attempt a spreadsheet for them.

My second goal is to get more reviews up. I've been slacking on them and I even know that. So I'm hoping this weekend, especially Monday, I'll be able to catch up.

Quick Post: Eye of the Day Burnt Auburn

I hope everyone had a lovely weekend. I actually lucked out yesterday (if you follow me on twitter, I mentioned this already), while at work, the country club that is virtually (there's a hotel in between) next to the restaurant set off a brilliant display of fireworks! I wanted them from one of the rooms, then ended up being out onto the upper patio to watch them. Best part was that they were setting off the customers' car alarms. Oops!

Anyway! This is another quick post for yesterday's eye of the day! Apparently this was a look that worked well with my eyes, or so I had been told =\ 

This basically consisted me of "winging it" as I knew the main color I wanted to use, but didn't really have anything beyond that planned out. Whoops! I guess it could be considered a happy mistake? :D

Quick Post: Eye of the Day June 15th

 

This is a quick post like graphic says. I got home late from work, hence why, quick post! :D Good news is, I think I finally figured out how to keep my curls in so that they don't fall. And holy moly, did they stay put! Last time I wore them, which was Thursday, they fell after, roughly, two hours. That's a different post all together though. For now, eyes of the day!

Eyes of the Day: Naked 2 Venus

I'm back with my eyes of the day or eye of the day, whichever works better! 

I can happily say that I have in my possession the Urban Decay Naked Basics palette now! Huge, huge thanks goes to nuclear_beauty on instagram who held the giveaway!

Going to work on Saturday, I knew that I wanted to do a nice smokey eye, but a neutral smokey eye. Normally I go for the metallics, shimmers and glitters type of smokey eyes, but due to the fact that Saturday was going to be rather crazy at work, I wanted to tone it down. 

I apologize in advance for not doing a pictorial for this look, I was in a rush having to be at work by 4:30pm :x

Step 1. I primed the lids using Milani's Eyeshadow Primer (review on this tomorrow!). Waited 30 seconds for the primer to set.

Step 2. After the primer set, I tight lined (using the Q-Tip method) my upper lash line with Urban Decay 24/7 Eye Pencil in Rockstar. Normally I just shut the eye and smudge, but I've come to notice that this is the cause of the flaking I've been experiencing. And here I was blaming my mascaras!

Step 3. I then took Venus from the palette and used that as my inner corner highlight.

Step 4. Then taking Faint all over the lid leaving a small space between Faint and Venus because I wanted a blending color between the two. I also took Faint above the crease slightly.

Step 5. The blending color between Venus and Faint, I used Naked 2. It comes across as a light color but is easily buildable, perfect bridge between the two.

Step 6. Getting that smokiness. Using Crave, I slowly blended it into Faint going towards the center of the lid, trying to get it as close to the lash line as possible, and then taking it into the crease.

Step 7. For the brow bone and to blend the remaining Faint above the crease, I used Walk of Shame.

Step 8. Lined the lower lash line to mimic my lid, then used Rockstar on the lower water line.

Step 9. Curl the lashes!

Step 10. Added two coats of Studio Gear Impactfull Pro T.L.S. Mascara.

End result?

Of course I can't get away without my mascara TRYING to act like eye liner. Sigh. This happens when I'm in a hurry ;x

Red and Gold: Iron Man 3

Yes! I got back from seeing Iron Man 3, no worries won't go into a review or anything. My Iron Man Inspired series will continue as I saw an Armor in the movie (not sure of the Mark) that I want to try and do a tutorial for.

I wanted to do a quick post of what look I ended up going with for today, before I have to head off to work.

Nails

This is actually the simple form of what I wanted to do. The polish did NOT want to dry. I even did the running the nails under ice cold water to try and speed up the process so I could put the guides on for the half moons. Didn't work. Used a guide on my pinky and ring finger the gold polish started to pull up. So 8 out of 10 fingers had the half moons done by hand. These are actually the two polishes that I used for the other two Iron Man movies as well. They represent the armor well!

Tutorial: Easter Eye of the Day

After going back and forth trying to figure out what to do for eye make up, trial and error with another palette and ended up having to go over it with other colors due to lack of pigmentation... I conjured up this.

Originally, I wanted to do a video tutorial, but the tripod I purchased, well... it decided to die. It literally broke into two pieces. /sigh back to the drawing board.

Not sure if it'll matter, but I'm wearing Cover Girl Outlast Stay Fabulous 3 in 1 Foundation in the color Ivory. I'm savoring my Urban Decay sample for work week ;x

In my house we celebrate our heritage around the clock, every single day. I'm very proud to be able to tell people that my Grandmother had been born and raised (until she was 6) in Co. Wicklow and that we still have family in Dublin.

Tutorial: Baked Greens for St. Paddy's Day!

Well, this was originally going to be a simple St. Patrick's Day eye make up, but circumstances happen and I managed to turn this into a still photo tutorial. What circumstances you ask? Oh, just me and my little ol' accident prone self. I was removing nail polish and managed to spray myself in the face with polish remover, getting a tiny bit in my eye. Rinsed for 15 minutes (luckily we have eye rinse cups in the house). Of course that rinsing resulted in my eye make up looking like a hot mess. But because of this, I was able to redo the eye and do this tutorial.

Lets begin! Please note, if you'd like to do this look, you can use whatever brands and colors that you want!

1. I started off covering my entire eyelid with Pixi Shell Sheen, I also brought it down along my lower lash line to make the colors that I put there pop as well.

2. Using Urban Decay Half Baked, I took it to a third on the upper lid, around the inner corner, then brought it almost 2/3s along the lower lash line (a particular look I was going for, you'll see why later).

3. Taking Maybelline Antique Jade, I swept that across the middle 1/3 of the eye, blending it into Half Baked, then took it from the outer corner and half way to the center of the eye on the lower lash line.

4. The final third, the outer corner or outer V, I used the emerald shade of Rimmel London's Green Sapphire  Quad palette (it's the one that's on the left side). This color appears emerald, but it is more of a black with an emerald sheen to it, so it can be deceiving in the palette. Working this into the outer corner, then into the crease, I swept this into the crease until it was about to the middle of the eye. Then worked only a small bit of this color on the outer corner of the lower lash line.

5. Touched up Antique Jade. I then ran Half Baked under Antique Jade on the lower lash line.

6. I wanted Half Baked to stand out a bit more, so I loaded up the very edge of my brush, and took it from the inner corner and into the crease, so it'd meet that dark emerald shadow from Green Sapphire.

7. Again, I feel silly for saying this, but I absolutely love using Rimmel London's Scandaleyes Shadow Stick in Blackmail as eyeliner. Whoops! I simply lined the upper and lower waterlines.

8. Then added my HG Mascara, N.Y.C. Show Time Volumizing Mascara in Extreme Black. I think two coats? Yeah, two coats. And that's it, done!

I hope you guys enjoyed! This was actually far easier than I thought it'd be.

EotD: Sculpted Rose

Yes! Another eye of the day. I've been wanted to use the L'Oreal HIP duo eye shadows in Sculpted since I got it from Target, and I finally did so. I have to say I absolutely love the shadows! I only had one before, when the HIP line was first introduced and didn't think anything of the shadows, the one I had, oddly enough, had a lime green to it.

On a somewhat related note, I'm thinking about bringing over eyes of the day I did some time ago (posted to my tumblr) over to here in one collective post.

Anywho, onward to the eye of the day!

Break down

I first started off using PIXI Lid Last Shadow Pen in Shell Sheen, all over the lid, smudging it out. 

Then I applied the lightest (champagne white) eye shadow shade from PIXI's PixiGlow Face Palette.

Next, I applied the middle (rose-gold) shade from the PixiGlow Face Palette, placing that next to the first shade and blend them in together. This mainly covers to the middle of the eye lid.

Moving onto the L'Oreal HIP duo, I then used the lightest shade from Sculpted, next to the PixiGlow rose-gold shade, and blended the two together. I brought this color out to cover the rest of the eye lid.

Lastly of the eye shadows, I used the darkest shade from the Sculpted duo for the crease and outer V.

Smudged E.L.F. cream eyeliner in black to my upper lash line, then using M.A.C. Feline on my lower water line.

And finally, using my HG mascara, N.Y.C. Volumizing Mascara on my upper lashes. I think it'd be good to note that I never apply mascara to my lower lashes, simply because my lower lashes + mascara = raccoon eyes! It isn't a pretty sight after 8 hours at work.

End Result, as my hair gets in the way because I had to be off to work. Whoops!

EotD: Quick look to go to work

This should probably be called Eyes of the Night simply because I was working 5pm to 10:30pm tonight. Honestly, I wasn't planning on putting make-up on today at all simply because both my Mother and I had been outside shoveling about a foot of snow! Definitely wanted to relax after that. 

Long story short, my Mom and I work for the same family owned business, so she ended up being called in, and I figured I have work that I couldn't get to yesterday because of the blizzard, so I best get my rear in gear and go!

After applying PIXI Shell Sheen all over the lid, I started with the inner corners using M.A.C. Dalliance. 

Next I used E.L.F. Earthly, basically concentrating it to the center, merging it with Dalliance which was very easy. In fact the way Earthly translates in photos, the green doesn't pick up! I then ran Earthly along the lower lash line, keeping it to the middle.

After that I used E.L.F. Caffeinated on the outer v, into the crease and on the outer corner of the lower lash line, blending it into Earthly.

Finally, I ran M.A.C. Feline into my upper lash line and lower water line. Then applied my HG mascara, N.Y.C. Show Time.

The end result?

EotD: Plum Saturday

I'm not one to do a Face of the Day look, but I will do Eyes of the Day. My make-up routine during the work week is pretty much the same. Quick, easy, and overall boring; which is why on Saturday and Sunday I tend to jazz up my eye make-up.

I normally do my eyes after I've finished putting my foundation and concealer on. I do know some do the opposite, eyes then foundation and concealer. I've done both, I'm just more used to going in the order of foundation, concealer, then eyes. When I do go in this order, I do tend to make sure I tap off any excess eyeshadow off my brush to make sure I get as little fall out as possible. Even when I do get a little fall out, I just use a fluffy face brush to gently get it off. Anyway, onto the look and product run down!

 A quick run down of the products that I used. This is actually a simple look, I think. I've used my fair share of eye primers in the past, my HG once was Urban Decay's Primer Potion. That was until the formula changed, or seemed to have changed. 

What I've been using to prime my eyes, I have been using since October '12, Pixi Beauty Lid Last Shadow Pen in the color Peach Pavé (the little mint/peach end crayon). I'll do a review on this in a later post as I absolutely love this product. I've worn this going from 8:30am to 11pm at night without any break down of eye shadows (it really also depends on the quality of the eye shadow too).

 For the eye shadows, I used Missha's Signature Velvet Art Shadow in No. 1 Plum Combination. The only shadow I didn't use from this palette was the taupe-y purple that is to the right of the lightest color. I used the light pink around the inner part of my eye, around the tear ducts. Then took the not so taupe-y purple (the purple that is below the light pink), blended it into the edge of the pink then brought it across my eye, stopping just before the outer corner of my eye. I did the same to my lower lash line. Then took the rich, deep purple, used that on the outer V and into the crease slightly, then did some simple blending of it into the purple. I then did the same thing to my lower lash line.

Then to blend the deep purple, and clean it up if I got any above my crease, I simply used M.A.C.'s Blanc Type. Which for me is perfect, it blends into my skin and can't be seen (wait, is that really perfect?).

Last two things, to line both my upper and lower lash line, I used M.A.C. Kohl Power Eye Pencil in Feline. Then my HG mascara, N.Y.C. Show Time [review].

No eye lash curlers were used. Let me just say, eye lash curlers and my lids, don't get along. My lids get pinched more than my lashes curl.

And that's it. Nothing really to it. I normally use more eye shadows then just sticking to one palette.
