Review: Revlon Lash Potion Mascara

For a long period of time, Revlon was hosting a Cast A Spell sweepstakes, not only would you be joining in in helping them reveal their latest spellbinding product, but you would be entering to win a trip to the MTV Movie Awards where said product would be revealed.

During the MTV Movie Awards, the product was revealed to be the newest mascara Lash Potion by Grow Luscious.

Luck would have it, I ended up receiving a sample of the product. After giving it a good long try out, review time!

Tutorial: Iron Man Suitcase Armor Inspired Eye Make-up

I'm baaack! I'm still trying to figure out what to do with the other armors, but for now I'm doing a tutorial using the Mark V or the Suitcase Armor as inspiration.

If you've seen Iron Man 2 then you'll be familiar with the Suitcase Armor that Tony dons while under attack by Ivan Vanko. It's primary color is the metallic red (candy apple red as mentioned in the first movie) and silver/chrome. I did throw in a third color, mainly representing when the armor is heavily damaged by Vanko.

So lets get on with the tutorial!

Started off by using PIXI Peach Pavé as the base for the shadows.

Taking a pencil brush and using NYX Rust as one half of the "Candy Apple Red", I went along the crease, basically doing a blended cut cease if that makes sense. Not pictured is that I took it slightly along the lash line. I also took Rust along one half of the lower lash line.

Next the other half of the "Candy Apple Red", I used MAC Crown & Sceptre. Rust has a pinky tone to it so I wanted to cover that up by using a more muted metallic red. Which I think Crown & Sceptre does the trick. I just went over where I put Rust.

For the Silver/Chrome part, again, I used two different shadows. Starting off with MAC Melt My Heart as the base silver. I just filled in and blended the edges of both reds together with Melt My Heart. Taking this down along the lower lash line as well, filling in the other half.

The second silver I used which gives off more of a, chrome-esque, appearance is the silver side of OZ from Urban Decay. I just went over Melt My Heart, but with Oz I patted it on more so then blending. After putting that in place, I went over Crown & Sceptre again making sure that it stood out against the silver.

The Suitcase Armor gets heavily damaged by Vanko, and I wanted to somehow put a color in to represent the damage. Probably not the greatest representation of it, but I used South from Urban Decay above the crease. Again, I went over Crown & Sceptre.

For some reason my camera likes to blow this one out. But for the brow bone and to blend out the harsh line I created with South, I used Illusion from Urban Decay and a Missha fluffy brush. I think it's the blending brush.

Two part eyeliner. I used Studio Gear Invicible Onyx Gel/Cream Liner for tight lining. Then used Blackmail from Rimmel London on my lower water line. Optional, add wing liner! I'm still trying to get the hang of that, which is why I haven't done it.

After that (not pictured) I used the new mascara from Revlon, Lash Potion. Two coats to the upper lashes and a coat to the lower lashes. I probably should have curled my lashes, but I didn't want to run downstairs and try to dig out my curler ;x

Review: Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter in Wild Watermelon

After standing in front of Revlon's new display for their Pacific Coast Collection (by Gucci Westman), I ended up finally deciding on which Lip Butter to purchase. I think it's built into me to by neutral tones for lips. This time around I decided on Wild Watermelon!

Going out of my comfort zone because I did not know how this would look on my vampire like skin. Haha, wait I don't sparkle, I swear!

Haul: Target and Harmon

Good news everybody! Har har, bonus points if you know where that's from.

My Target is beginning to get the newer lines from ELF (finally!). I think I spent a good 15 minutes standing in front of the display trying to decide on what to get. Now it suddenly makes sense as to why the display area was very bare for quite sometime.

Fast and furious, lets get to it!

Lucked out and they STILL had the Wet n' Wild Limited Edition 8 pan eye shadow palette. Picked up Nude Awakening ($4.99).

From Target

My Mother actually headed down the aisle before I did, and pointed to the newly stocked items for ELF (she points and wanders, letting me fend for myself). Ended up picking up three items (3 items for the whole 15 minutes I was standing in awe?), ELF Baked Eyeshadow in Toasted and Burnt Plum ($3.00 each), plus Flawless Eyeshadow in Party Purple ($2.00).

And for some reason, anytime I'm in Target, I can't leave without a nail polish. Picked up Revlon Colorstay in Bonsai (anytime I hear Bonsai I'm instantly reminded of Ed from Cowboy Bebop watering Jet's Bonsai trees).

Review: Revlon ColorStay Ultimate Liquid Lipstick

I'm not due into work until 1pm, but I don't know if that will be happening because it's snowing!

Just for the record, I'm actually attempting a lip swatch this go around as well! Be afraid, be very afraid!

Ended up venturing to Target yesterday and picked up this Revlon ColorStay Ultimate Liquid Lipstick in #001 Perfect Peony.

I'm not usually one for lip products, it's normally just a tinted lip balm and I'm gone. On occasion I will pick one up for one reason or another. For this one, the color caught my eye.

Doe foot applicator

Packaging: Sleek and sturdy. Almost giving an illusion that the real tube is encased in "glass". It comes with a doe foot applicator. BUT. Yes, but. While the outside is lovely, I have a severe issue with the "inside". I don't know if it's just mine, but there doesn't seem to be a stopper inside the tube to pull the excess liquid lipstick from the applicator. It just globs out and gets all over the place. Too much on the applicator, which results in too much around the lip of the tube.

Color: I'd have to say it's a mauve-berry. Definitely shimmer there, but not too much, just enough.

Swatch

Texture: It starts out very creamy and smooth. I was actually surprised. THEN it dries down to a matte-esque texture, and becomes rather sticky/tacky. I wasn't expecting that. It wasn't something that I really liked. The color makes up for it though.

Removal: I probably do the unconventional way of removal. Napkin. Yes, I normally just grab a napkin to remove my lipsticks. I shouldn't, but I do. This liquid lipstick actually stuck! After I finally got the liquid lipstick removed, it left my lips feeling very dry, with what felt like a residue left over.

Overall: I do like the color. I just didn't like how the liquid lipstick dried down. I'm sure it is workable though. Probably just adding a lipgloss or balm over it, might perk it back up.

For me, I had to work, otherwise this post would have been up sooner. Instead of my normal 9am-5pm, I worked the "night" shift instead. So, I was able to spend a little more time on my make-up instead of the slap on and out the door that I normally do.

 

What's In My Make-up Bag?

After passing my bag several times to day (namely to go outside and shovel snow), I finally grabbed my make-up bag because I wanted to do this post. I don't know if I'm going to do this as a monthly thing, or every other month because what I carry rarely changes.

I don't carry much make-up (not even powder!), mostly lip products. At least now it makes sense as to when I go in search of a lip stick, and can't find it though. It isn't missing, it's just in its new home!

1. E.L.F. Travel Mirror. The actual logo has since worn off.

2. Victoria's Secret Beauty Rush Oil Blotting Sheets. I use these once in a blue moon, mostly during the summer.

3. Selena Gomez Roller Perfume. LOVE IT!

4. Fresh Sugar Tinted Lip Treatment in Plum. Always using this!

5. Revlon ColorStay Soft & Smooth in Satin Rosewood (#295). I got this at Big Lots for, I think $1.50

6. Bloom Cosmetics in Sweet Pea.

7. Tarte Lip Surgence in Sweet.

8. Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Rose & Shine (#619).

9. Lancôme Juicy Tubes in Moulin Rose. Was given this as a gift.

Beauty: Everyday Make-up

While waiting for my batteries to charge on BOTH of my cameras (they have a knack of dying when I want to take photos for a review), I loaded up the memory card to my laptop and pulled one of the photos I took before the batteries died. Wasn't planning on doing this, but it'd break up the review mood I've been in.

This post is dedicated to my everyday make-up. Just the products I wear everyday. The only thing that I constantly change is my eyeshadows. I don't have a set eyeshadow that I wear to work all the time. The weekend is another story.

So, onward and upward!

Foundation: My HG foundation is normally Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-hour Full Coverage in Fair, however I ended up running out (cries), so now what has taken it's place is Revlon Colorstay Whipped in #110 Ivory. It isn't up there with my HG foundation, especially in this blistery cold weather, it dries out my skin more. But I do like it, the cover is good, and the color match doesn't make me look like a martian. I apply this using my Buffing Brush from Real Techniques (not pictured).

Concealer: M.A.C. Studio Finish Concealer in NW15. This is my second one and I love this concealer. I use it for any spots or discoloration. For that I use my Pixel-Pointed Eyeliner Brush from Real Techniques (not pictured. Wait what? Yes, I use an eyeliner brush for any spots, it works best for me in that sense. Even using this for my under eye area (aka dark circles because I stay up too long, whoops), using Base Shadow Brush from Real Techniques (not pictured) to apply it, then I blend in with my ring finger.

Eyeshadow Primer: PIXI Lid Last Shadow Pen, in either Peach Pavé or Shell Sheen [review]. I normally don't have to do any blending, but if anything I just use my finger to melt the product down slightly.

Eyeshadow: Varies. For work though, I don't wear ultra bright colors, it's normally real simple and neutral.

Mascara: My HG mascara (yes I'm declaring it right now I LOVE IT) N.Y.C. Volumizing Mascara [review]. Two coats and trying to get as close to the lash line as possible to avoid having to use eye liner. Normally works.

Blush: I do change my blush at least twice a year. I have a spring/summer blush then a fall/winter blush. So, right now I'm using M.A.C. Bite of an Apple which was a limited edition from their Disney Villains collection. Love, love the color, but it is BEYOND pigmented (super duper gentle hand needed with this), a quick pat onto a stippling brush (No name from Target), and that serves as enough for both cheeks.

Lips: Since the first I've been reaching for my Fresh Sugar Tinted Lip Treatment in Plum. It just gives a hint of color, while moisturizing. Definitely needed being it's been cold here in New Jersey.

And that's it, those are all the products that I use, and I'm normally done and out the door in 7 minutes (I don't count doing my hair because that's the most time consuming task of the morning).

Nothing really changes during the weekend, I just take more time on my eyes because I'm not in a rush to get to work.

Monthly: January Favorites

Took me a little while to put this together, but I'm finally done! This is mainly a "picture" post, it's pretty much self explanatory. All the items listed behind the read more, are items that I have been using constantly through the month of January. Hopefully the read more works below. 

 

Weekly Manicure: Charismatic Light

Figure I'd kick off a weekly series being I tend to switch my polish up on that type of basis. Save for my New Year's nails which lasted from 12/30 to 1/7, I think that's a record for me with polish.

Originally, I wasn't going to make a post with this, but I got so many compliments at work with the combination, so why not.

(L) Charismatic, (R) Strobe Light

For my base coat I used my Nicole by O.P.I. Strengthener Plus. This time around I applied two coats rather than just one.

I let both coats dry, then applied two coats of Revlon's Charismatic, which is a shimmery apricot color. Allowing both coats to dry I then applied my favorite, Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Strobe Light.

Lastly, I used Inm Out The Door as my top coat. I probably could have done two coats of it as the top doesn't feel very smooth. I can tell there's glitter from Strobe Light trying to break through.

End Result.
